Byron Washom is a “solar soothsayer.” So says Fast Company Magazine, which named him one of the “100 Most Creative Persons in Business.” An alternative-energy pioneer, Washom is partnering with UH–Maui College to bring electric vehicles to Hawai’i. As UC–San Diego’s director of Strategic Energy Initiatives, Washom is responsible for policy to achieve the campus’s goals for quantum improvements in energy management and greenhouse-gas reductions. He is a four-time Rockefeller Foundation grantee and a former Heinz Endowment grantee for early adoption of renewable energy into developing countries.
