Maui’s own surf icon and big wave pioneer, world champion ocean athlete.
Dave Kalama is a Hawaiian waterman who hails from a long line of surfing legends. After making waves as a world champion windsurfer, Dave evolved into a surf icon, helping to pioneer the sport of big-wave, tow-in surfing. With stand up paddle surfing (SUP) and racing now added to his repertoire, he competes annually in races and channel crossings.
Dave is not only renowned for his athletic prowess, but also for his year-round training ethic and innovative approach to the sport. He has been featured in countless magazine articles and instructional videos, as well as several full-length feature and documentary films. When he’s not in the water or in front of the camera, Dave actively endorses Hawai‘i’s watersports and is an ardent supporter of autism and cystic fibrosis research, and ocean health and safety initiatives.”
