The title of this Maui Taiko performance “Okage Sama De” is translated in English to “I am What I am Because of You”.
About this Performer:
Established in 1996, Maui Taiko is a nonprofit dedicated to promoting taiko (Japanese drumming) and perpetuating the traditional Japanese folk songs and dances of the Buddhist O-Bon festival, which honors the spirits of the ancestors. Maui Taiko plays the traditional Japanese folk song “Fukushima Ondo” at 15 different O-Bon festivals and many other cultural events on Maui.
The current Maui Taiko group includes 50 members ranging in age from 8 to 60.
