Maui Taiko – Okage Sama De

The title of this Maui Taiko performance “Okage Sama De” is translated in English to “I am What I am Because of You”.

About this Performer:

Established in 1996, Maui Taiko is a nonprofit dedicated to promoting taiko (Japanese drumming) and perpetuating the traditional Japanese folk songs and dances of the Buddhist O-Bon festival, which honors the spirits of the ancestors. Maui Taiko plays the traditional Japanese folk song “Fukushima Ondo” at 15 different O-Bon festivals and many other cultural events on Maui.

The current Maui Taiko group includes 50 members ranging in age from 8 to 60.

Recorded at TEDxMaui 2012, held on January 22, 2012 at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center.
