The second annual TEDxMaui event attracted over 1,000 Maui residents and visitors to the Maui Arts & Cultural Center (MACC)’s Castle Theater on Sunday, the organizers announced today.
The daylong event brought together celebrated presenters from Hawai‘i and beyond to share their big ideas on stage in 18 minutes or less. Among the audience members were organizers of TEDx events from around the globe (including TEDxSiberia), presenters from last year’s TEDxMaui event, and rock legends Mick Fleetwood and Steven Tyler. In addition, the event streamed to hundreds of people watching from around the globe.
The presentations were documented in a multi-camera live video shoot, and will be edited and posted to the TEDx YouTube channel in March, the organizers said.

Instead of so many random photos of presenters presenting, why not show/capture more reactions of attendees? That’s what will draw people next year. And my instinct is that what happened outside the hall will over time have a much bigger impact on our island than what happened inside.
The difference between watching videos and coming to an event is the connections that attendees make by bouncing off each other while they’re there and to a lesser extent, talking to the presenters when they’re not presenting. I had great conversations with e.g., Quayle and Lauren that I hope will reverberate down the years. I’m sure that others did the same with other presenters.
Thanks again to the organizers, presenters and volunteers for their hard work and to the attendees for energizing the day itself.
